Labor Day countdown: last splash weekends
What's still open, what closes early, and how to send the season off right.
Friday. Labor Day is 3 weekends away. This is the wind-down digest — make these weeks count.
Send the season off
Labor Day weekend is the symbolic close of splash season for most of the country, even though the calendar says summer runs to late September. Many pads close the Tuesday after Labor Day. The play for the next 3 weekends: revisit your top 2 pads of the summer, take the photos, do the long visit you kept putting off, and let the kids pick the final pad of the season. Closing day matters more emotionally than opening day — make it intentional.
We're closing the season with a flagship pad recommendation — the kind with multiple zones, a strong center feature, plenty of seating, and a layout that holds memories. Whatever pad your family adopted as 'ours' this summer, that's the one to revisit before close. Bring a slightly nicer snack. Stay 20 minutes longer than usual. Take the photo by the bucket dump.
Wind-down checklist
- Confirm closing dates for your top 3 pads — many close Tuesday after Labor Day.
- Schedule a 'last visit' on the calendar; it makes the season feel intentional.
- Save end-of-season photos to a shared family album before they get buried.
- Restock supplies you used up — sunscreen, water shoes — they go on clearance now.
- Reply with your favorite splash pad memory of 2026 — we'd love to hear it.
Thanks for splashing with us all summer. We'll be back next May — and a few off-season notes will land in between.
