What warranty should a splash pad contractor provide?

Splash pad warranties layer in three pieces. First, the manufacturer (Vortex, Waterplay, Empex, Aquatix) warrants the spray features, valves, and controllers — typically 1-5 years on parts, with consumables like nozzles and seals excluded. Second, the contractor's workmanship warranty covers installation defects: leaking joints, slab cracking, electrical bonding failures, drainage issues. Industry standard is 2 years from substantial completion, but many municipal RFPs require 5 years on plumbing and electrical. Third, sub-contractor warranties may extend further — a concrete sub may warrant the slab against settlement or shrinkage cracking for 5-10 years. Negotiate explicit language on response time (typically 7 days for non-urgent, 24 hours for urgent shutdowns), bond requirements (warranty bond at 10% of contract value), and exclusions (vandalism, acts of God, owner-induced damage). Get the warranty in writing as an attachment to the contract, not just a marketing brochure.
