Are there splash pads at train stations?
Quick answer
A handful of European and Asian train stations include water features and splash zones, particularly in Japan, Singapore, and parts of Germany. US train stations rarely have them inside, though Amtrak and commuter-rail station-adjacent parks sometimes include splash pads.
Train station splash pads are very rare in the US and uncommon globally, but a few notable examples exist. Asia leads β Singapore's Marina Bay station area, several Tokyo and Osaka station plazas, and some Hong Kong MTR mall-station combinations include water features as part of integrated transit-retail districts. Europe has scattered examples in modern stations like Amsterdam Centraal's adjacent plaza. US train stations β Amtrak, Metro-North, LIRR, MARC, BART β rarely include splash pads inside or even adjacent to stations because of space, drainage, and operating responsibility. The exception is station-adjacent parks: stations near downtown parks or waterfronts may have splash pads in the nearby plaza, like New York's Hudson Yards near Penn Station or Boston's Greenway near South Station. Worth checking transit-area maps if you have a long station wait with kids in summer.
