What if I need to leave suddenly?
Quick answer
Pack a 'rapid exit' bag with car keys, phone, wallet, and one towel always within arm's reach. If you need to leave fast (work emergency, sick kid, family call), grab kids by the hand, wrap the wettest one in the towel, leave behind the rest of your stuff if it's not valuable, and sort it out from the car.
Sudden departures happen β a work emergency, another child's emergency, a sick kid mid-visit. Plan for the possibility before you arrive. Keep keys, phone, wallet, and one quick-grab towel in a small bag you can wear or grip in seconds, not buried in a bigger pool bag. Park where you can see the pad if possible. When you need to bolt, you're going to lose efficiency on dry clothes β your kid will be wet and cold in the car, which is fine for a 5-15 minute drive with the heat on. Cheap items (sand toys, regular flip-flops) can be left and recovered later. Valuables in the bag should be retrievable in under 30 seconds. If you have multiple kids, give each a one-job assignment ('hold my hand', 'grab your shoes') so the exit is coordinated.
