What should I wear as a parent at a splash pad?
Quick answer
Quick-dry shorts, athletic sandals or water shoes, sun shirt with UPF, and a hat. You'll get sprayed more than you expect, and chasing a toddler in flip-flops on wet concrete is how parents fall. Keep dry clothes in the car, not the gear bag.
Most parents underdress for splash pads, then spend ninety minutes uncomfortable. Plan to get sprayed, even if you intend to stay dry β toddlers run, slip, and grab; older kids occasionally aim. Quick-dry hiking or athletic shorts are forgiving and won't sag wet. A long-sleeve UPF sun shirt protects shoulders and neck better than reapplying sunscreen every hour. Footwear matters most. Athletic sandals (Tevas, Chacos, Keens) or sturdy water shoes give traction on wet concrete; flip-flops slip; barefoot risks burns and cuts. A hat with a brim shades eyes when you are constantly looking up to find your kid. Keep dry clothes in the car, not the gear bag, so you have something genuinely dry to change into for the drive home. If you nurse, a tank with a built-in clip is easier than a one-piece swimsuit. None of this is fashion, all of it is about being able to last the visit.
